The Art of Unity

Transforming Trauma Through Creation

Thank you for all the LOVE on my previous post. I’ve been revisiting this piece, titled “Through The Fire,” and wanted to share the deeper meaning behind its foundation and evolution.

This painting began as a watercolor inspired by the vibrant colors of nature, created during a time when I felt peace and joy in my life. It was a reflection of harmony, simplicity, and connection to the natural world.

When the devastating LA fires occurred, I felt called to revisit this work, layering it with ashes and water I gathered from the aftermath. The act of painting over something born from a time of serenity became a powerful metaphor—an exploration of life’s duality. Peace and joy now intertwine with crisis and trauma.

As I overlaid the collective emotions of despair, fear, helplessness, anger, and numbness onto the original piece, I found myself sitting in the tension of opposites, holding space for both. The process of painting became an act of unity—a way to honor both the beauty and the suffering that coexist in life.

This work continues to evolve, as do I. Each brushstroke is a release, a step toward healing, and a reminder that even in destruction, there is the possibility of renewal.

NOTE: I am exploring options to create limited edition prints and/or auctioning the original to support fundraising for the LA Fires. Stay tuned.
